Hello. I’m Stephanie Clark, LMHC, founder and counselor of Swandive Counseling.

My Story

I came to counseling later in life, by way of a circular route.

As a teenager, I dreamed of becoming a counselor and “helping people,” but once in college, it soon became clear that I was ill-equipped to counsel anyone.

Heavily involved with drugs and alcohol, I faltered for many years before hitting bottom. I have remained clean, sober, and active in recovery for over 30 years.

Sobriety was just the beginning. I struggled with my own demons before seeking help and healing some deep wounds. I finally became ready to tackle my original goal - counseling.  Only now I had life experience and a real passion to help.

I get what you’re going through. Maybe not the exact circumstances, but certainly the pain and the fear.

I also know that the ability to heal is real, and it is within reach.

My Promise to You

I’ll be fully present and available in our sessions.  I’ll listen without judgement or disrespect.  I won’t pity you for what’s happened or be shocked by what you’ve done.  I’ll make space for all of you.

I’ll be honest, but I’ll never preach or tell you what to do or think or feel.  I’ll respect your innate ability to know what you need, while helping you peel away the lies clouding your truth.

I’ll lend my confidence, clarity, and compassion until yours grow strong.  I’ll remind you of what you are capable of until you believe it yourself.

I’ll lead until you can find your own way, and when you say you’re ready, I’ll let go and watch you fly.

My Education & Training

I am a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor and have been counseling since 2014, having received my Master’s from the University of South Florida.  I practiced at The Centre for Women until March of 2021, when I left to open Swandive Counseling, LLC.

Working at The Centre was amazing.  I counseled women and men (yes, men), of every age, race, income, and sexual orientation.  Domestic violence and childhood abuse impacted the lives of many of my clients, and it was here I developed a passion for helping clients heal from trauma.

I am a level II Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, am trained to provide EMDR (an evidenced-based treatment for PTSD), and have experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for trauma.

Since trauma is closely associated with anxiety and depression, I have additional training in these areas as well, including Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

I continue to train and learn.
